User Researcher

Please note that due to current research needs we are looking to fill this role on a contract basis for a period of up to three months.

About You:

The Thalmic Product team seeks an innovative and highly motivated User Researcher to help us build the future of wearable technology. You are passionate about building great product experiences that delight users. You have a deep understanding of user research methods and best practices, while having a nimble, creative, and pragmatic approach to delivery.

You can keep pace with the rapid innovation in the product teams as they continually iterate. Along the way, you will also find time to step back and ask the big questions that help us focus on the most pertinent areas of research and influence product timely.

Main objectives:

  • Within 7 days:
    • Get up to speed on our products in development, our product roadmap and our research to date by devouring all available documentation and talking with team members
  • Within 15 days:
    • Start leading research activities, including: Reviewing research needs and requests, developing a research plan, conducting interviews (or deploying other primary data collection methods), synthesizing your insights and collating your findings
    • Deliver your findings and recommendations to key stakeholders - including product managers, designers and engineers - using a variety of written and in-person communication methods in a way that is clearly synthesized, easily actionable and instills a level of empathy for our customers across the entire organization
  • Within 30 days:
    • Develop a deep understanding of our customers and their needs
    • Work with other members of the research community to build our research capability at Thalmic and share best practices across the community

What You’ll Need:

  • BS or MS in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, or related discipline
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience, deliverables, and the ability to extract actionable insights from qualitative data
  • Demonstrated skill and creativity for selecting the right mix of methods to research questions and business goals, and resourcefulness to invent new methods when the right method does not exist
  • Obsession for the customer experience-you never settle for good enough, and continually inspire those around you to do better for the customer
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Eagerness to continually learn, grow, and improve the craft of research

Bonus points for:

  • Deep product research experience in consumer technology lifestyle products
  • Strong grasp of quantitative data analysis and statistics
