Help Desk Technician

About You:

You’ve got real-world experience working at a help desk, but you’re rarely behind the desk itself.  You love to support real humans and answer their toughest questions, but you also love the meditative din of the server room.  Your degree isn’t necessarily in computer science, but everyone you know comes to you for help with their computers.

Main objectives:

  • Within 30 days you’ll be playing for the team:
    • You’ll have met all sixty people on our manufacturing floor and answered sixty of their questions
  • Within 60 days you’ll be building stuff people love:
    • You’ll be comfortable supporting our company-wide meetings: you’ll run the mixer in the Multi-Purpose Room, you’ll demand administrative privileges to our Google Chromeboxes, and you’ll have some concrete ways to improve the A/V systems
  • Within the first year you’ll be raising the bar:
    • You’ll know each of our three KW sites like the back of your hand
    • You’ll be ready to take on larger projects involving storage, virtualization, and networking infrastructure

What You’ll Need:

You'll need a genuine interest in and prior experience working with A/V equipment.  We’re talking more than just setting up Kodi for your family.  Even though you may have made the switch to Apple years ago, you’ll still need to remain proficient with Windows operating systems.  You’ll need some ladder safety training, but we can provide that.  Most importantly, you’ll need to keep calm under pressure, because here at Thalmic Labs we don't let obstacles stay in our path, regardless of how difficult they are to overcome.

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with the Linux command-line
  • Owning your own toolbag
  • Waiting tables for more than two weeks

Feel like you can’t tick all the boxes above? If you have some of the skills and experience that we’re looking for and are willing to use your talent to learn the rest, we encourage you to apply!
