CNC Machinist & Toolmaker

About You:

You are an experienced Machinist and Toolmaker with a proven ability to think creatively, tackle complex problems and move quickly to provide high quality components.  You enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with others to create and establish new processes and new ways of working.   You are flexible and able to react quickly in dynamic environments. You get stuff done.

What You Will Do:

You will be responsible for establishing a fully functioning CNC machine shop to support the development of precision jigs, fixtures and automation to the engineering and manufacturing teams.  

Within 15 days you will:

  • Understand the mechanical architecture, how our product is assembled, and how the fixtures and tools contribute to building a quality product.
  • Take on a lead role in planning and implementing our internal machine shop.
  • Provide DFM input into current fixture and automation development.

Within 30 days and onwards you will:

  • Have our internal machine shop set up to a point where we have a steady flow of components being machined internally.
  • Have a system in place to send overflow machining to external vendors.
  • Support the sourcing of 3D equipment and internal development of our product.

What You Need:

  • 5+ years in CNC machining (multi axis)
  • High level of proficiency in CAM (MasterCAM, Fusion 360)
  • Solid foundation in reading and interpreting 2D drawings and GD&T.
  • Machining of intricate components with complex geometry with tight tolerances.
  • Machining of small, feature rich components.
  • Sound knowledge of various metals, plastics and composite materials and respective machining and/or processing methods
  • Deep understanding and experience in part finishing, plating/coatings.
  • Ability to assemble and troubleshoot jigs, fixtures and automation with multiple moving parts.
  • Support engineering design team with DFM processes and give feedback on machine design
  • Ability to inspect and measure components to ensure that they meet design intent and specifications.
  • Ability to provide feedback to Engineering groups through a design review process.

Bonus Points For:

  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Machine design and DFM
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment
